๐ŸŒ World Day for Safety and Health at Work: EOON Care’s Commitment to Safer Workplaces in Nigeria and Beyond

๐ŸŒ World Day for Safety and Health at Work: EOON Care’s Commitment to Safer Workplaces in Nigeria and Beyond

๐Ÿ“… 28th April

Each year on 28th April, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work shines a global spotlight on the importance of preventing occupational accidents and illnesses. This international observance, spearheaded by the International Labour Organization (ILO), encourages all organisations to build a strong culture of prevention that safeguards workers’ health, safety, and well-being.

๐Ÿšจ Why This Matters in Nigeria

In Nigeria, workplace safety is a growing concern across multiple sectors — from healthcare to oil and gas, manufacturing to construction. Despite progress, thousands of workers still face preventable injuries, health risks, and unsafe environments each year due to limited enforcement of safety laws, lack of training, and poor awareness.

According to the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (NISP), occupational accidents continue to cause significant harm to both individuals and the economy. Now more than ever, it’s crucial for businesses and organisations to prioritise employee protection through proactive measures.

๐Ÿฉบ EOON Care: Leading by Example in Healthcare Workplace Safety

At EOON Care, we understand that safety in the workplace is not a luxury — it’s a necessity. As a leading provider of elder care and wellness services, especially within healthcare settings, we are committed to protecting both our employees and the people we serve.

Here’s how EOON Care fosters a culture of safety:

Regular Health Screenings – Early detection of illness to reduce risks
Ergonomic Work Environments – Designed to reduce physical strain and injury
Mental Health Support – Wellbeing initiatives to prevent burnout and psychological stress
Ongoing Training – Empowering our staff with the knowledge to stay safe and support others
PPE and Infection Control – Especially vital in healthcare, we uphold global best practices

๐Ÿ’ก What Can Be Done to Improve Workplace Safety in Nigeria?

Creating safer work environments in Nigeria — and across the globe — requires collaborative action from all stakeholders. Here are key recommendations:

๐Ÿ”น Stronger Policies & Enforcement: Government agencies must enhance safety laws and actively monitor compliance.
๐Ÿ”น Workplace Training: Employers should run regular health and safety training for all staff.
๐Ÿ”น Accessible Healthcare & Support: Staff should have access to mental health services, health insurance, and responsive care.
๐Ÿ”น Multi-sector Collaboration: Partnerships between government, private organisations like EOON Care, and NGOs can create broader impact.

World Malaria Day: EOON Care Strengthening Nigeria’s Fight Against Malaria

World Malaria Day: EOON Care Strengthening Nigeria’s Fight Against Malaria

๐Ÿ—“️ 25th April | #WorldMalariaDay

Malaria is not just a disease—it’s a public health emergency that continues to affect millions of lives across Africa, especially in Nigeria, which bears the heaviest burden globally. Every 25th of April, World Malaria Day reminds us that although malaria is preventable and treatable, it still claims hundreds of thousands of lives each year.

At EOON Care, we stand with global and local partners to push for a malaria-free Nigeria, protecting our most vulnerable—children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

๐ŸฆŸ The Malaria Burden in Nigeria

Nigeria alone accounts for:

  • 27% of the world’s malaria cases

  • 32% of global malaria deaths
    (World Health Organization, 2023)

The disease impacts every sector—from health and education to economic productivity. Frequent bouts of malaria reduce school attendance, affect businesses, and increase family healthcare costs. Children under 5 and pregnant women face the highest risk, but older adults are often overlooked in malaria conversations.

๐Ÿ’š EOON Care’s Commitment to Malaria Prevention

At EOON Care, we’re not just treating malaria—we’re preventing it. Our services are rooted in community education, strategic partnerships, and specialised support for the vulnerable, especially older adults.

Here’s how we’re making a difference:

Health Education & Community Awareness
We work directly with families and local leaders to educate communities about:

  • Proper use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets (ITNs)

  • Environmental sanitation and mosquito control

  • Early recognition of malaria symptoms and prompt treatment

Collaborations That Drive Impact
EOON Care partners with:

  • Government health agencies

  • NGOs and international organisations Together, we’re improving diagnostic services and supporting research into more effective malaria treatments.

Protecting Pregnant Women & Children
We deliver targeted interventions—including antenatal care support, mosquito net distribution, and rapid testing—to ensure that women and children receive the protection they need.

Supporting Elderly Health
Older adults often suffer in silence with misdiagnosed or recurrent malaria. EOON Care provides special care plans and home-based support to protect our seniors.

๐ŸŒ Looking Ahead: A Malaria-Free Nigeria

Eliminating malaria in Nigeria will require:

  • Stronger health systems

  • More funding for research

  • Wider public awareness

  • Persistent community involvement

EOON Care is proud to be part of this mission. By combining innovation, compassion, and accessibility, we aim to close the healthcare gap—one household at a time.

Myth vs Fact: Senior Citizens' Mental Health

Myth vs Fact: Senior Citizens' Mental Health

Content by Olagoke | 19th April

As our population grows older, it’s time to face the truth: mental health in senior citizens matters. Unfortunately, many misconceptions prevent older adults from receiving the care and support they truly need.

Let’s debunk the myths and highlight the facts – because knowledge saves lives when it comes to elder care.

๐Ÿง  Myth 1: Mental health problems are just part of getting old.

Fact: Aging does bring unique challenges, such as bereavement, chronic illness, or retirement, but mental health issues are not a natural part of ageing. Many seniors live mentally sharp, emotionally balanced lives. Depression or anxiety in later life should never be dismissed as “normal.”

๐Ÿ” Evidence: NICE Guidelines on Older People’s Mental Health

๐Ÿšซ Myth 2: Older adults don’t really suffer from mental health disorders.

Fact: They absolutely do. Around 1 in 5 older adults experience a mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety, or dementia. Sadly, many suffer in silence due to stigma or lack of awareness.

๐Ÿ“Œ Nigeria’s elderly population is growing fast, and many families are unprepared to support mental health needs, often mistaking symptoms for “old age behaviour.”

๐Ÿ’ฌ Myth 3: There’s no point treating mental health issues in the elderly.

Fact: That couldn’t be further from the truth. With proper diagnosis, counselling, medication, and emotional support, seniors can experience real recovery and improvement in quality of life.

๐Ÿง‘‍⚕️ Therapy, support groups, and meaningful social interaction are incredibly effective.

๐Ÿฅ Why This Matters in Nigeria – And the UK

In Nigeria, older adults with mental health concerns are often neglected, sometimes hidden due to fear of shame. Yet the population of seniors (60+) is expected to more than double by 2050. We must act now to break the stigma.

In the UK, loneliness and isolation continue to impact senior mental health. We must champion community-driven support, especially for African and diaspora elders.

๐Ÿ’š EOON Care: Here to Support You

At EOON Care, we’re passionate about dignified ageing and mental wellness for elders. Our trained team provides:

  • ✅ One-on-one counselling

  • ✅ Family education and support

  • ✅ Therapeutic activities to build purpose and connection

  • ✅ Guidance for managing dementia, depression, and anxiety

We believe that no one should suffer in silence – especially not our elders.

๐ŸŽถ How Music Therapy Can Soothe Stress – and Why It Matters in Nigeria ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

๐ŸŽถ How Music Therapy Can Soothe Stress – and Why It Matters in Nigeria ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

Content by Testimony | 15th April

In today’s fast-paced world, stress is ubiquitous, affecting people of all ages, professions, and communities. Whether you're juggling the hustle in Lagos, commuting in London, or balancing family responsibilities, stress can easily creep in and take a toll on your mental and physical well-being.

But what if the solution to stress was as simple as pressing play on your favourite song? ๐ŸŽง
That’s where music therapy steps in—a science-backed, culturally influential, and emotionally uplifting way to improve mental health.

๐ŸŽต What Is Music Therapy and How Does It Work?

Music therapy uses the healing power of sound to support emotional, mental, and physical health. From calming rhythms to uplifting melodies, music helps reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), slows heart rate, and improves mood.

Research shows that listening to soothing music can significantly reduce anxiety and create a sense of inner calm. One notable study by Thoma et al. (2013) found that relaxing music can regulate stress responses, helping the brain enter a peaceful state.

But it’s not just science—it’s soul. Music activates emotional centres in the brain, helping people process feelings, express themselves, and even reconnect with joyful memories.

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Why Music Therapy Is Vital for Nigeria

In Nigeria, the conversation around mental health is gaining traction. Still, stress-related issues like anxiety and depression often go undiagnosed or untreated, especially in busy urban areas and underserved rural communities.

From the fast-paced life in Lagos and Abuja, to economic pressures and social expectations, stress is on the rise. Meanwhile, access to traditional mental health services remains limited for many.

However, music is deeply woven into Nigerian culture. Traditional songs, drumming, and chants are part of our identity—used in ceremonies, storytelling, healing, and joy. This rich musical heritage can become a powerful tool in modern mental health care.

At EOON Care, we believe that integrating music therapy into stress management strategies offers a holistic, accessible, and culturally relevant solution, especially for elders, caregivers, and families seeking non-invasive ways to improve well-being.

๐Ÿ› ️ Practical Tips for Using Music Therapy at Home

Whether you're in Nigeria or the UK, here’s how you can start using music to manage stress:

  • ๐ŸŽง Create a calming playlist: Include slow-tempo music, classical, or nature sounds.

  • ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿพ‍♀️ Use music during relaxation time: Combine it with breathing exercises or meditation.

  • ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ Dance it out: Physical movement with music boosts endorphins.

  • ๐Ÿช˜ Explore local music: Nigerian folk and traditional music can evoke a sense of cultural pride and healing.

  • ๐Ÿ“ป Limit overstimulating noise: Replace background noise with soft instrumentals or gospel tunes.

๐ŸŒ EOON Care Is Bringing Music Therapy to You!

We’re passionate about promoting mental wellness through creative, alternative therapies like music. Whether you’re:

  • An individual seeking stress relief,

  • A healthcare worker exploring holistic treatment,

  • Or a community leader wanting to raise mental health awareness—

You have a role to play.

World Health Day 2025: Championing Global Well-being – A Nigerian Perspective with EOON Care

World Health Day 2025: Championing Global Well-being – A Nigerian Perspective with EOON Care

Content by Susan | 7th April

Every year on April 7th, the world unites to celebrate World Health Day, a powerful reminder of the need for health equity, accessibility, and well-being for all. Spearheaded by the World Health Organization (WHO) since 1950, this day shines a spotlight on the most urgent health challenges globally—and this year, EOON Care is proudly standing at the forefront of this movement in Nigeria.

๐ŸŒ Why World Health Day Matters—Especially in Nigeria

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, is rich in culture, resilience, and potential. Yet, it faces daunting health challenges—high maternal and infant mortality rates, the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and limited access to quality healthcare, especially in rural areas. According to the World Bank (2023), Nigeria’s healthcare spending still falls below global recommendations, while issues such as understaffed health facilities and urban-rural disparities continue to widen the gap in healthcare access.

๐Ÿ’š EOON Care: Taking Action, Creating Impact

At EOON Care, we believe healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Our mission is to support families and transform health outcomes across Nigeria through accessible, affordable, and compassionate care.

Here’s how we’re making a difference:

  • ๐Ÿ“ฑ Telemedicine Services
We're breaking barriers by offering remote consultations, especially in underserved communities—bridging the gap where clinics are scarce and travel is difficult.

  • ๐Ÿฉบ Preventive Healthcare Campaigns
Through consistent education on lifestyle-related conditions like hypertension and diabetes, we're helping families take control of their health early.

  • ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍⚕️ Community-Based Support
Our elder care services empower families to look after their loved ones while receiving professional support tailored to the Nigerian context.

These efforts perfectly align with the global World Health Day 2025 theme: ensuring everyone, everywhere, can access the healthcare they need—without financial hardship or delay.

๐Ÿ” What Can You Do?

  • Get informed: Learn about your health risks and local services.

  • Take action: Schedule regular health checks—especially for older loved ones.

  • Speak up: Advocate for better healthcare funding and services in your community.

  • Partner with us: Whether you're in Nigeria or the UK, EOON Care is ready to support your family's healthcare journey.

Together for a Healthier Nigeria

This World Health Day let’s renew our commitment to creating a future where health is truly for all. At EOON Care, we’re not just observing the day—we’re living its values every single day.

Let EOON Care be part of your family’s journey toward building stronger connections and a healthier life.

The Silent Killer: How Stress Affects Senior Citizens in Nigeria

The Silent Killer: How Stress Affects Senior Citizens in Nigeria

Content by Chidebere | 6th April

As we grow older, life should ideally slow down—but for many elderly people in Nigeria, that isn’t the case. From health worries and financial pressures to loneliness and a lack of support, stress has become a silent but serious threat to our senior citizens.

According to the National Population Commission (2019), Nigeria’s elderly population is growing rapidly, but the support systems haven’t kept pace. And while some age-related changes are normal, chronic stress is not—and it’s one of the leading causes of physical and mental decline among older adults.

๐Ÿ˜Ÿ The Impact of Stress on Our Elders

Stress doesn’t just affect mood. In seniors, prolonged stress can lead to:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Cognitive decline and memory issues

  • Worsening of chronic conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis

  • Poor sleep, fatigue, and weakened immunity

In a country like Nigeria, where healthcare access is already limited, stress can further exacerbate the situation. This is why early identification and proper management are crucial.

๐Ÿงก EOON Care’s Holistic Approach to Stress Management

At EOON Care, we understand that elderly care must go beyond medication. Our holistic caregiving model provides emotional, physical, and social support tailored to each individual’s unique needs.

Our trained caregivers work with families to:

✅ Recognise signs of stress early
✅ Create safe, calming routines
✅ Encourage physical activity and social connection
✅ Offer companionship and emotional support

Whether it’s guiding breathing exercises, providing companionship, or simply listening, our team ensures that seniors are supported—not just medically but emotionally, too.

๐Ÿ“ข Why Awareness Matters

Education is powerful. We are committed to raising awareness among families, caregivers, and healthcare providers about the impact of stress on older adults. By working together, we can build a more inclusive society where seniors feel seen, safe, and supported.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Final Thoughts

Stress may be silent, but its effects on older adults are loud and clear. Let’s not ignore it.

At EOON Care, we’re here to help your elderly loved ones live with dignity, joy, and peace of mind. Together, we can promote healthy ageing in Nigeria—and beyond.

Managing Stress as a Caregiver: Practical Strategies to Protect Your Well-being

Managing Stress as a Caregiver: Practical Strategies to Protect Your Well-being

Content by Sorochi | 1st April

In Nigeria and many African cultures, caregiving is often seen as a natural family responsibility. However, many caregivers find themselves overwhelmed, juggling work, family, and care duties, without adequate support. The result? Burnout, exhaustion, and declining health, which in turn affects the quality of care given to loved ones.

At EOON Care, we understand the demands of caregiving. That’s why we’re passionate about supporting caregivers with practical solutions that sustain both the caregiver and the care receiver. Let’s explore how you can take care of yourself while caring for others.

๐Ÿง  Know the Signs of Caregiver Stress

Caregiver stress is real. Be mindful of physical symptoms like:

  • Constant fatigue

  • Headaches

  • Insomnia

  • Frequent illnesses

…and emotional signs such as:

  • Irritability or mood swings

  • Anxiety or feelings of guilt

  • Feeling overwhelmed or isolated

Ignoring these signs can lead to long-term burnout. Recognising them early is the first step to regaining control.

Sustainable Strategies for Managing Stress

Here’s how you can stay strong while giving care:

1. Prioritise Self-Care

You matter, too! Incorporate daily activities that rejuvenate your body and mind—whether it’s a 15-minute walk, a moment of prayer or meditation, journaling, or simply enjoying a good laugh with family.

“You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

2. Build a Support Network

Talk to trusted friends and family members, or join caregiver groups. Sharing your experiences can bring emotional relief and helpful advice. You're not alone—others understand your journey.

3. Master Time Management

Create a daily or weekly care schedule. List essential tasks, delegate where possible, and don't forget to schedule short breaks throughout your day. You are allowed to pause.

4. Access Respite Care Services

Respite care is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. At EOON Care, we offer reliable short-term caregiving, allowing you to rest, attend to personal errands, or take a well-deserved break.

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ A Nigerian Reality: You Deserve Support Too

In Nigeria, caregiving is a labour of love, but that love must extend to yourself too. Many feel they must "do it all", often silently suffering in the process. Seeking help doesn't make you weak—it makes you wise.

When you care for yourself, everyone benefits.

๐Ÿค Let EOON Care Support You

We offer flexible, compassionate care solutions including respite care designed with Nigerian families in mind. Whether you're caring for an ageing parent or a loved one with health challenges, we’re here to lighten the load.
